Brazil President Says “Footballers have a small chance of dying”

Most world leaders have acknowledged the threat posed by the dreaded Coronavirus, and are not hesitating in taking actions to prevent its spread. An exception to this rule is Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro, who is trying to get football up and running. On facing criticisms about not properly taking care of the players’ health, he said, “Footballers, if infected with the virus, have a small chance of dying. That’s because of their physical state, because they are athletes.”

Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro, who was also quoted as being dismissive of the mortality rate of the virus and the subsequent death count, was sent a list of prerequisite steps that need to be taken before a restart by the country’s football body. Football players, including world cup winners, have rallied for Bolsonaro’s resignation because of his ‘irresponsible management of the crisis’.
