On facing criticisms about not properly taking care of the players’ health, he said, “Footballers, if infected with the virus, have a small chance of dying. That’s because of their physical state, because they are athletes.”
Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro, who was also quoted as being dismissive of the mortality rate of the virus and the subsequent death count, was sent a list of prerequisite steps that need to be taken before a restart by the country’s football body. Football players, including world cup winners, have rallied for Bolsonaro’s resignation because of his ‘irresponsible management of the crisis’.
